Pods Upgrade Troubleshooting and Priority Support

Upgrades are our top priority when it comes to support. If you have experienced a problem after updating Pods to the latest version, let us help you sort it out quickly.

Quick help

The help topics below should allow you to quickly figure out what might be going on with many common issues that people encounter with their configuration and hosting.

PHP warnings/errors on my site

Are you seeing PHP warnings or errors on your site after upgrading?

Resolution: If any of the errors mention Pods or show the /wp-content/plugins/pods/* path in them, please Request Priority Upgrade Support and we can look into that for you.

HTTP 404 errors on my site

Are you seeing 404 “Not Found” errors for your post type or taxonomy for links that should normally show?

Resolutions:

  • You may need to go to the Settings > Permalinks screen and click the “Save Changes” button on the form. You don’t need to make changes to the form before submitting because clicking this button will automatically refresh your complete list of “Rewrite Rules” for all content types registered in WordPress.
  • Check your settings for your Post Type or Taxonomy to ensure they are public, publicly queryable, and have rewrites enabled on them.

Content is empty on front of site but visible in admin area

Are you using Pods shortcodes or blocks and your content is not showing on the front of your site after upgrading to the latest version of Pods?

Resolutions:

  • If your post type or taxonomy is not public and publicly queryable, Pods and WordPress understand those content types to be not available for dynamic content embeds. Pods 3.1 has additional options in your pod that can further customize how the content type can be embedded.
  • Try enabling WP_DEBUG to turn on debugging in WordPress. This can possibly show additional errors that your site may not be outputting.
  • If your content is still empty, please Request Priority Upgrade Support. We can help you further determine what may be going on with your site.

Potential data loss

Do you think that Pods may have removed some of your data after the latest upgrade?

Resolution: This is something we never intend to do with Pods and has never been typical to lose data due to updating Pods from an older version even back to Pods 1.x versions. If you believe that Pods has removed some of your data, please Request Priority Upgrade Support right away using the form below. We can help you determine what caused your data loss and if it was Pods related.

Pods Admin: Edit Pod screen is blank

When you attempt to edit the settings of a Pod, is the admin page blank where you would normally see the form?

Resolutions:

Edit content form missing custom fields

When you attempt to edit custom fields for any content type, does the section show but no fields appear?

Resolutions:

  • Check your Browser Console for JavaScript errors which may be caused from a plugin or theme conflict.
  • You can also try clearing the cache that Pods uses by going to Pods Admin > Settings screen and then clicking the Clear Pods Cache button.

When you attempt to edit custom fields for any post type, is the meta box not showing?

Resolutions:

  • For the Block Editor: You can go to the Block Options icon at the top right with three vertical dots. Once there, go to Preferences > Panels. Look for the meta box that you were expecting to see and determine if it’s hidden and must be shown.
  • For the Classic Editor: You can go to the Screen Options link at the top right of the editor. Once there, look in the Screen Elements for the meta box that you were expecting to see and determine if it’s hidden and must be shown.

Pods Admin menu is not showing in admin area

Is the Pods Admin menu not showing for a user that should have access?

Resolutions:

  • Confirm that Pods is still active on that site
  • For single-site installs: Pods will use the delete_users capability check to determine if they should see the Pods Admin menu item.
  • For multi-site networks: Pods will check if the user is either a Super Admin for the network to determine if they should see the Pods Admin menu item.
  • You can customize the capabilities that a user can have in order to see the Pods Admin menu by filtering the list of capabilities using the pods_admin_capabilities filter

Potential incompatibility with another plugin or theme

Are you having a problem with another plugin’s or theme’s functionality while Pods is activated? Or is Pods behaving unexpectedly when another plugin or specific theme is activated?

Resolutions:

Potential incompatibility with WordPress core

Did you upgrade WordPress but Pods is now working unexpectedly?

Resolution: If the issue is severe after updating Pods to the latest version, please Request Priority Upgrade Support. We can help you further determine what may be going on with your site.
